In development

Blender, your way.

Nolan is a full build of Blender with its own look and a set of workflow upgrades: a picture-in-picture camera view in the 3D viewport, a built-in Shot Manager, a Video Sequencer that keeps up, and themes made for long sessions.

What is different

Nolan is the Blender you already know, with the changes below on top. Your files, add-ons and shortcuts carry over.

Picture-in-picture camera view

Watch your camera in Cycles or EEVEE in a small picture-in-picture window inside the 3D viewport, while you keep working in the main view. It renders on its own, so you can model in Solid and see the final look live, with separate shading and overlay settings.

Built-in Shot Manager

Plan and organize the shots of your scene in one panel: name them, jump between them and keep everything in order, without installing a separate add-on.

A faster Video Sequencer

Frames made of several image strips decode in parallel, playback decodes ahead of the playhead, and previews can use smaller cached copies of your images. Heavy image sequences play back instead of stutter.

Channel colors

Give each timeline channel a color from your theme, or pick any custom color and set how strongly it tints the row. A plain timeline is one overlay toggle away.

Nolan Dark and Nolan Light

Two themes ship in the box, a deep charcoal dark theme with red accents and a matching light one. Both are regular theme presets, so you can start from them and make your own.

Quality-of-life polish

Small improvements throughout the interface and day-to-day workflow, aimed at removing the little annoyances that add up over a long session.

Full Blender underneath

Not a stripped-down editor. Nolan is built from current Blender source, with Cycles, EEVEE, the bundled Python and the full add-on system.
